An apple and oatmeal a day (keeps the dr and dieters away)

An apple and oatmeal a day added to your meal (or as part of breakfast) totally and completely works! It is a great way I have found to quickly lose a few extra pounds before an event or trip and helps me to stay fuller longer.

I didn't stick with this concept however because there are only so many ways you can jazz up oatmeal after a few weeks.  I still love love a bowl at least once or twice a week to start the day (or even for lunch) but this everyday keeps me far away!

Slim Fast.. Gain it back faster

I have tried slim fast several times here and there in the past few years with the same results.  I can usually manage at least a week (sometimes even 2 or 3) weeks of drinking the shakes for two meals a day, I mean seriously who doesn't love milkshakes for meals!  This even works to lose weight.  However, the weight stays off only as long as you are drinking the slimfast drinks (for me at least one a day as a meal replacement).

Eventually, you get tired of the maintaining drinks (one meal replaced with a drink everyday) and I fell off the slimfast wagon.  When you stop drinking the drinks the weight comes right back, faster even then the time it took to lose it.   It appears to almost be water weight that is taken off by slimfast.

On the plus side though.... when I had my tonsils out and couldn't really eat for three weeks these drinks were a lifesaver as a meal replacement and way to still get nutrients.

Yes, you do slim fast, but when you stop the drinks, the weight is gained back even faster.

Starting new program- DASH Diet

Current diet in progress- The Dash diet

I am currently starting the DASH diet.  While this diet seems complex with lots of reading and studying to do, the overall point of the diet is lots of fruits and veggies along with calorie counting.  So basically... eating healthy with a small amount of fats.

This reminds me of the food pyramid we teach elementary school students.  Eat lots of good stuff and greens, and only a small amount of fats.  A very complicated way to say eat a balanced meal (wow and someone made millions off this concept by renaming it "DASH").

Diet updates to come soon.

Calorie Counting (Count me in!)

http://www.my-calorie-counter.com/calorie_counter.asp

Calorie counting is kind of a pain and requires constant computer use but it is highly effective if you ask me.  You first use the website tools to find out your ideal calorie intake for the day, then log every bite you eat to stay on target for the day.

Holy Moly! I had no idea I ate so much, and wow do those little pieces of chocolate add up fast!!  The biggest struggle is to remember to log on and put in everything you eat! I even had to set my homepage to be this page so every time I log on to the internet I am forced to go to this page.  At the school where I teach they blocked the website which makes it hard to log my lunch (or the cupcake for a students' birthday).  I often stop logging foods for a few days (ok... weeks) but I almost always revert back to calorie counting.

It's a pain but overall, I still eat what I want, but I just account for it.  And if I really want to, I can have that mac and cheese (and maybe a second helping) just nothing else for the day.  It takes time, but it works and overall makes you think closely about what you put in your body.  And for those days I am going to have that 100 calorie bite of chocolate it makes me savor every last calorie.

Count me in for calorie counting!

The Dukan Diet- (Du-Can't)

After watching princess Kate Middleton walk down the aisle in her wedding dress, I was determined to look as thin and beautiful for my June diet.  I tried this diet for 2 months, from July to September.  So what if I tried it after the wedding, I had already had my dress fittings and wanted to be able to enjoy every last cake sample!  Overall, I lost all of 1 pound and found that this is a great diet for Princesses who have a team to prepare every meal.

I ate only protein for weeks, then was able to eat some veggies.  I thought this would be great since I need more iron and protein in my diet, not to mention I could use the energy.  Mainly I filled up on coffee, got sick of egg whites very quick and have never felt so sick of red meat in my life!  The recipes weren't so bad, but the problem is as a newly wed, working full time, and going to graduate school, who really has time to grill steak for every meal??

What started as a great attempt to cook lots of meat meals (my husband was thrilled to death for all the red meat and even he got stick of it quickly) turned into me having a container of peanuts and pecans (salted... ooops) for lunch, coffee for breakfast, and some slices of lunch meats for dinner.

This is a great diet for people who have a personal chef or lots of time to cook most of the day or have lots of money to shop places other than the generic grocery store.  However for me and my busy schedule this was what I consider the "du-can't" diet.

Total weight lost- 1 lb, which was gained back plus a pound or two when I started eating carbs again (damn you mac and cheese).

A Taste of Dieting... What the blog is all about!

Like so many women out there I feel like I've tried every diet fad out there.  Obviously since I am still trying them I have not had the greatest of luck.  I am by my BMI considered average weight but like all women, I want to be skinnier.

This blog will be my personal account of each diet I try.  The successes, failures, and everything in between.  It's a first hand account of the real inside scoop of each diet out there and what they really taste like.

Follow my blog and let's taste the sweet success of weight loss together!
